?? She’s back!! We zijn superblij dat we een nieuwe workshopreeks van de enige echte Bess Kuil kunnen aanbieden! Deze geweldige danseres was al twee keer eerder bij ons om een energieke workshop Afrikaanse dans te geven en opnieuw wordt ze vergezeld door de getalenteerde Ibou Ndong om live muziek te spelen tijdens de workshop. Bess en Ibou laten je bewegen, lachen, zweten en je springlevend voelen!
Afrikaanse dans
Afrikaanse dans bestaat uit verschillende elementen. Een daarvan is het ontwikkelen van ritmegevoel en dat toepassen in het dansen. We werken aan het isoleren van lichaamsdelen en het belangrijkste element is jezelf uitdagen om vrij te durven dansen en te freestylen. In deze workshop leer je verschillende soorten bewegingen die uit verschillende Afrikaanse dansstijlen komen, en tools die het makkelijker én leuker maken om te freestylen!
In deze workshop leren we dansen door te doen, en niet door erover te praten. We gaan veel bewegen met maar een paar korte pauzes om je uithoudingsvermogen te verbeteren. En dat op energieke muziek! Op zaterdag voegen we nog een extra dimensie toe aan de workshop: dan wordt de muziek live gespeeld door djembéspeler Ibou Ndong.
Bij Poetic Motion vinden we het belangrijk om aandacht te besteden aan de wortels van Afro-Cubaanse cultuur en de dans en muziek die wij nu salsa noemen. Ieder onderdeel is onlosmakelijk verbonden met wat we doen op de dansvloer. Leer je meer over één onderdeel, dan vergroot dat je kennis over het geheel!
De workshop vindt plaats op vrijdagavond 8 en zaterdagmiddag 9 oktober en is toegankelijk voor alle niveaus.
Over de artiesten
Bess Kuil is danseres, choreograaf en danslerares, gespecialiseerd in Afrikaanse dans, moderne dans, burlesque, maar ook in partnerdansen zoals Braziliaanse zouk en contact improvisatie. Ze danste en trad op in veel verschillende dansstijlen in Europa en daarbuiten (Senegal).
In haar optredens, choreografieën en lessen mixt Bess verschillende stijlen en tradities. Haar lessen draaien om het bewustworden van je lichaam, fysieke communicatie, de vrijheid om te bewegen en het plezier in dans. De passie van deze danseres voel je in de lessen die ze geeft.
Ibou Ndong (Dakar, Senegal) heeft zich in de afgelopen 15 jaar ontwikkeld tot een uitstekende djembéspeler. Hij is geboren in Medina, het ghetto van Dakar, waar het bruist van leven en kunstenaars. Vrienden spoorden hem aan om ook djembé te spelen, iets wat hem sindsdien veel energie en liefde voor muziek geeft. Ibou werd onderdeel van het Centre Culturelle Blaise Senghor en trad op met het dansgezelschap. Hij speelde ook als percussionist bij de band Asico en verschillende reggaebands. Sinds zijn verhuizing naar Nederland in 2014 geeft hij workshops en speelt hij op jamsessies, festivals en andere bijeenkomsten in heel Nederland en België.

Het is niet mogelijk om een van de twee workshopdagen los te boeken. Als de workshop in verband met nieuwe coronamaatregelen niet kan plaatsvinden in de dansschool, bieden we een online alternatief aan. Workshop African Dance by Bess Kuil
?? She’s back!! We are happy to announce a new workshop series by the one and only Bess Kuil! This amazing dancer joined us two times before to teach an energetic workshop African Dance and for the second time, the talented Ibou Ndong is joining her to play live music during the workshop. We guarantee an experience that will make you move, laugh, sweat and feel alive!
African Dance
African dance classes contain different elements. One of these elements is developing rhythm and applying this in dance. You will learn how to isolate body parts and the most important element will be daring yourself to move freely and freestyle. In this workshop, you will learn various movement materials coming from different African dance styles, and tools that will make freestyling easier and more fun!
In this workshop, we learn to dance by moving, and not by talking a lot about it. We will move a lot with just a few breaks in between the classes, which also improves your stamina. And all of this will be done on energetic music! On Saturday, we add an extra special dimension to the workshop: the music will be played live by djembé player Ibou Ndong!
To us at Poetic Motion, it’s important to pay attention to the roots of Afro Cuban culture and the dance and music we now call salsa. Every part is inseparable from what we do on the dancefloor. If you learn more about one part, it expands your knowledge about the whole story!
This workshop will take place on Friday evening, October 8th and Saturday, October 9th. The workshop is accessible to all levels.
About the artists
Bess Kuil is a dancer, performer, choreographer and dance teacher specialized in African dance, modern dance, burlesque but also various partner dance styles, including Brazilian Zouk and contact improvisation. She danced and performed in many different dance and performance styles in Europe and abroad (Senegal).
As a performer, choreographer, dancer and teacher, Bess mixes different styles and traditions. Her classes are about body awareness, physical communication, freedom in movement and the joy of dancing. The passion of this dancer is felt in all classes she teaches.
In the past 15 years, Ibou Ndong (Dakar, Senegal) developed himself into a an excellent Djembé player. He was born in the ghetto of Dakar called Medina which is full of life and artists. There he got influenced by his friends that were playing djembé, giving him a lot of energy and enthusiasm for music. Ibou entered the Centre Culturelle Blaise Senghor and subscribed to be part of the Ballet as to perform with the company. Later he also took part in another group called Asico and several reggae bands as percussionist.
Since his arrival in Amsterdam in 2014 he starting sharing his quality with others, giving workshops and playing on Jams, Festivals and Gatherings all over the Netherlands and Belgium.

It is not possible to book only one of the two workshop days. If the workshop cannot take place in the dance school due to new corona measures, we will offer an online alternative. If you do not want to join the online class, contact us to get your tuition back.
